HUMAN RESOURCE SERVICES

Team members shaking hands

Human Resources is probably one of the more complicated aspects of running a small business. The complexities of working with people don’t fit nicely on a spreadsheet. Yet HR is incredibly important; employee salaries and benefits make up a huge chunk of your operating expenses.  Your employees are one of your greatest assets. You must protect and manage that asset, as well as your business.

We know that as a small business owner it can be challenging to stay on top of the many aspects of HR, but by doing so you can protect your business and reduce turnover, improve employee skills and increase overall company productivity. At Marc Michaud & Associates we offer a variety of HR solutions to meet your individual business needs.

THE THREE BASICS

HR is rife with laws and regulations, which is part of why small businesses often put off dealing with it, there are three basic things you must implement to cover the bases.

EMPLOYEE FILES

You must keep three specific files for each employee in your business.

These files are:

  • I-9 File – This form is used by the U.S. Government to identify and verify that your employees are eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Employee General File – This is a file you create for your own benefit. It contains any documentation associated with that employee that you’ve collected during their employment with you.
  • Employee Medical File – These files will contain notes from doctors, disability information, and any medical information that you have on an employee.

EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK

We believe that an employee handbook is essential to any business to ensure consistency, clear communications and to protect your business.

An employee handbook:

  • Gives you legal protection
  • Sets employee expectations
  • Guides managers
  • Helps with orientation and time management
  • Easily solves disputes
  • Ensures consistency

DISPLAY REQUIRED
POSTERS

State and Federal Employment Laws/Regulations require all employers with at least one employee to post at each of their locations, in an area frequented by all employees, all applicable, current, required federal and state employment law notices.
